Andis Clippers with Wahl guards

IMG_0767.JPG

If your a barber you will probably know that you can't use the Wahl guards on Andis clippers and vice versa due to the difference in blade size.

This normally wouldn't bother me as I mainly use Wahl clippers and on the odd occasion I get out the Osters...However!

Andis released a dia de los muertos style version of their fade clipper! Any one who knows me will know that I am absolutely fascinated by day of the dead artwork and have several tattoos in this style.

So obviously I had to get them! Slight problem though...I love my metal clip wahl grade guards with the half and 1 1/2 option and they are not compatible with these clippers :(

Then a scene of Captain Haddock from the Tin Tin film popped into my head...

Tintin: It's over.

Captain Haddock: I thought you were an optimist

Tintin: Well, you were wrong, weren't you? I'm a realist.

Captain Haddock: That's just another name for a quitter.

Tintin: You can call me what you like. Don't you get it? We failed.

Captain Haddock: "failed", there are plenty of others willing to call you a failure. A fool. A loser. A hopeless souse! Don't you ever say it of yourself. You send the wrong signal, that is what people pick up. Do you understand? You care about something, you fight for it. You hit a wall, you push through it.

So I did!...well...rather than push through a wall I just opened the door to my brothers work shop and rummaged around for the tool that would help me achieve my goal.

By this time, by the way, I am already the happy owner of the dia de los muertos clippers!

So...after about half an hour of searching I stumble across the tiniest tool I have ever seen... a little metal file.

As the blade on the Andis clippers are longer than Wahl I figured I would have to file a notch out of the blade for the metal clip on the guards to fit.

Well...About an hour later, sweating and hands riddled with blisters I had made a beautifully curved notch in the blade. I tested the guards and they fitted perfectly!

Just to let you know that after the 30 minutes of searching for the tool then the hour or so filing...My brother returned home from work and said "Oh, If you'd have asked I could have done it on my cutting machine...would have only took a couple of seconds"...The less said about that the better.

Any way...I am now the proud owner of a customised dia de los muertos clipper! :)
